Key Personnel
Marc S. Koplik, Esq., Chairman and Director of Laidlaw Holdings Plc
Mr. Koplik serves as Chairman of the Board of Laidlaw & Company (UK) Ltd. Prior
to joining Laidlaw, Mr. Koplik served as General Counsel to several financial service
concerns over the past twenty years and as a Managing Partner in the law firm of
Henderson & Koplik, LLC. Mr. Koplik began his legal career at Debevoise & Plimpton
where he was involved in financial and general corporate matters for such corporate
clientele as American Airlines, Phelps Dodge, Cooper Laboratories, Wheelabrator-Fry
and N.M. Rothschild & Sons, Ltd. He has also represented Massachusetts Mutual, Connecticut
General, Prudential and other insurance companies in the area of secured and unsecured
financing. Mr. Koplik has served as Director and/or General Counsel of Kuhns Brothers
& Laidlaw; Fayette Energy, Inc. Jet Services; Vescam; Auerbach Financial Group,
Inc.; New World Power Corporation; Medical Copyright, Inc.; Pathfinder Venture,
LLC; and American Securities Consultants, Inc. Mr. Koplik is a graduate of Brown
University, Cum Laude where he was a Dean’s Scholar, College Scholar and Francis
Wayland Scholar. He received his law degree from Yale University Law School where
he was Editor of the Yale Law Review and the Yale Journal of Law and Social Policy.
Hugh Regan, President & Chief Executive Officer, Director of Laidlaw Holdings,
Plc
Mr. Regan serves as President and Chief Executive Officer. Before joining Laidlaw,
Mr. Regan served for nine years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Auerbach,
Pollak & Richardson, Inc, an investment banking and securities brokerage boutique
focused on corporate finance and institutional research for small and middle-market
companies. Before joining Auerbach, Mr. Regan was a founding member, principle shareholder,
Executive Vice-President and Director of Laidlaw Holdings, Inc, an asset management
and investment banking concern, where he oversaw the corporate finance activities
and served as a member of the Executive Committee. Prior to that, Mr. Regan was
associated with Laidlaw, Adams & Peck in the areas of research and investment
banking. He is a graduate of Williams College, Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude where
he was awarded the Benedict Prize for national achievement in Classics. Mr. Regan
also attended Stanford University’s Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies
in Rome and Columbia University’s Post-Graduate School of Special Studies.
Stephen P. Collins, Executive Vice President, Group Head, Private Client Services
Based in New York, Mr. Collins is responsilble for the overall management and development
of Laidlaw's retail and institutional sales activities accross our branch office
system. Prior to Laidlaw Mr Collins managed the Middle Market Equity Sales business
at Deutsche Bank Alex Brown in New York. Mr. Collins began his career at E. F. Hutton
in 1984 and has worked in retail and institutional sales at such firms as Smith
Barney, Paine Webber, DB Alex Brown and Prudential Securities. Mr. Collins holds
a BA in Management/Marketing from Clarkson University.
Peter Silverman, Senior Executive Officer, Managing Director, London
Mr. Silverman has been involved at senior levels in institutional and retail sales,
trading and back-office operations on Wall Street for almost twenty-five years.
He presently serves as Senior Executive Officer of Laidlaw‘s main office in London.
He began his career with Herzfeld Stern in 1982 in operations and ultimately worked
directly for one of the Managing Partners in institutional sales and trading. After
Herzfeld, Mr. Silverman was associated with such firms as Ladenburg, Thalmann &
Co. and Shearson Lehman American Express in sales and administration. He is a graduate
of American University in Paris where he received a degree in International Business
Administration and developed proficiency in five languages.
Theodore V. Fowler, Senior Managing Director, Group Head, Corporate Finance Department
Mr. Fowler joined Laidlaw in 2003 and presently serves as Director and Group Head
of the firm’s Corporate Finance Department and a member of the Commitment Committee.
Prior to joining Laidlaw, he served as President of The Private Merchant Banking
Company, a firm engaged in the strategic planning, private funding and management
control of under-performing and emerging companies. Mr. Fowler began his career
with Blyth Eastman Dillon in 1971 in corporate finance. He later moved on to Credit
Suisse First Boston where he became Co-Head of Investment Banking and Co-General
Partner of Principal Investing and was instrumental in its rise to the top three
position in many rankings by which Wall Street firms are judged. From 1986-1989,
he served as Co-Head of Investment Banking at Prudential Securities, where he oversaw
the firm’s expansion of merchant banking, leveraged buyouts and its rise to the
top ten in lead-managed underwritings. From 1992 to 1999, Mr. Fowler acted as President
of BRMC, Inc. and as Vice-President of Boca Resorts, Inc., managing the Boca Raton
Resort and Club. He is a graduate of Amherst College and of Columbia University
where he received a Masters of Business Administration with Honors.
Robert J. Bonaventura, Senior Managing Director, Vice Chairman
Mr. Bonaventura currently serves as Vice-Chairman of Laidlaw, having most recently
served as President, focusing his efforts on the development of the firm’s sales,
brokerage and investment banking activities. He began his career at Rodman & Renshaw,
a regional investment banking and brokerage firm where he was involved in the Private
Client Service group. Mr. Bonaventura received his B.A. degree from Hampden-Sydney
College where he was an All-American lacrosse player and is a member of the college’s
Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
John Marcus, Managing Director, Institutional Banking
Mr. Marcus is involved in the review, analysis, structuring and placement of corporate
finance transactions with the institutional clientele of Laidlaw. He began his career
on Wall Street with Manufacturers Hanover in 1972 in the area of leveraged buyouts
and asset-based financing. Over the subsequent 34 years, Mr. Marcus was associated
with such firms as Horsehead Capital, a merchant banking operation, Prudential-Bache
Securities, where he served as Director of Mergers & Acquisitions, and the Private
Merchant Banking Company where he was involved in mergers, acquisitions, private
equity and mezzanine finance, ultimately serving as President. Mr. Marcus is a graduate
of the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania, where he received
a B.S. in Economics and Fordham University, Graduate School of Business, where he
was awarded an M.B.A.
